Here is a sample itinerary for such a trip:
Day 1: Tangier to Chefchaouen
Start your trip in Tangier, toward Titouan. You will then follow a magnificent road to Chefchaouen, a picturesque blue-walled town nestled in the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen is renowned for its blue painted walls, creating a unique and picturesque environment. Located in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco, this town is a charming gem and offers a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Narrow streets, buildings in varying shades of blue, and Moorish architecture contribute to Chefchaouen’s distinct aesthetic. Spend the evening strolling the narrow streets of Chefchaouen. Night in a magnificent riad with a delicious dinner.
Day 2: Chefchaouen to Fes
Departure for Fes, one of the oldest and most fascinating cities in Morocco. Medina of Fes El Bali: Get lost on purpose in the labyrinthine streets of the medina. Explore the souks, markets and soak up the bustling daily life. You will discover local artisanal products.
Night and dinner in a magnificent Riad in the medina.
Day 3: Fes to Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
Travel south towards the Sahara Desert.
En route, we make a stop in the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. You can enjoy a short hike in the forest to admire the majestic cedars and meet the monkeys who live there. Crossing the Ziz Valley is a magnificent stage of your journey, offering impressive desert landscapes. Then you will visit the Erfoud Fossil Museum. This museum features an impressive collection of local fossils, including ammonites, trilobites and other prehistoric finds. You can learn more about the geological history of the region.
Merzouga Camel trekking:
Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will meet your local guide and set off on a camel ride through the dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the most spectacular dune formations in the Sahara. Enjoy the peace and serenity of the desert as you travel slowly by camel. We choose a strategic place to admire the sunset over the dunes. The warm hues and changing shadows on the sand offer an unforgettable spectacle. This is also the perfect time to take photos. At the end of your camel ride, arrive at your desert camp. These camps are often made up of traditional nomadic tents, offering an authentic experience. You will then enjoy a dinner under the stars. Desert meals are prepared in the traditional way, offering local flavors. Sitting around the campfire, you can also enjoy the local music played by the guides. After dinner, take some time to stargaze. The lack of light pollution in the desert creates incredibly clear night skies. If you’re lucky, you might even see the Milky Way. Spend the night in your nomadic tent. Listen to the silence of the desert as you fall asleep under a starry sky.
Day 4: Merzouga to the Dades Gorges
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes.
We will return to Merzouga and continue our journey towards the Dades gorges.
We will visit the large traditional market of Rissani Then we leave towards Toudra gorges via Kssar Touroug. When you arrive at the Todra gorges, you explore the imposing canyons and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes. After lunch we continue our journey towards the Dades gorges where you will discover the magnificent rock formations. Overnight near the Dades gorges.
Day 5: Dades Gorges to Ouarzazate
You will begin your day by leaving the majestic Dades Gorge early in the morning, ready to start journey to Ouarzazate. Along the way, a stop at Kelaa Mgouna, renowned for its rose products, will offer you the opportunity to discover local crafts, including rose water, in the region’s charming shops. Continuing your route through varied landscapes, you will reach the fascinating Kasbah Amridil in Skoura. This historic kasbah, surrounded by lush gardens, will reveal traditional Berber architecture and a captivating dive into the history of the region. Finally, you will continue your journey to Ouarzazate, nicknamed the “City of Cinema in Morocco” for its film studios. Settle comfortably into a hotel for the night.
Day 6: Ouarzazate – Studio Atlas – Ait ben haddou kasbah – High Atlas – Marrakech
After your breakfast, immerse yourself in the cinematic world by visiting the city’s world-famous film studios. Witness to numerous international film productions, these studios offer a unique immersion behind the scenes of films shot in the region. Explore the sets, get a behind-the-scenes look, and appreciate the significant impact the film industry has had on this Moroccan city.
In the afternoon, head to the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located a few kilometers from Ouarzazate, this kasbah is an architectural wonder made of adobe, with its watchtowers and narrow streets. Steeped in history, Ait Ben Haddou has served as the backdrop for numerous films, including “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones.” Stroll through the streets, explore the mud houses, and enjoy the panoramic views from the ramparts. This day will satisfy your movie-loving curiosity while transporting you to the mystical past of Berber culture.
